Dab Hand says: This picturesque image by artist Trevor Mitchell shows a steam train speeding across a viaduct above a barge being pulled in the opposite direction on the aqueduct below. The ‘Gifford’ is a horse drawn narrowboat whose original purpose was to carry bulk liquids such as tar, creosote and crude oil on the English canals. It can now be seen in all its glory at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port.
