Dab Hand says: This rare jigsaw features a fine art painting by George Chambers (1803-1840) who was a sailor before he became an artist. “The Bombardment of Algiers, August 27th 1816” was painted in 1836. It features ships under the command of Admiral Lord Exmouth. In the centre of the picture is the flag ship The Queen Charlotte (100 guns) and on the right The Impregnable (98 guns). This cardboard jigsaw in Waddington’s “Scroll” series (Stock No 530) has a wavy edge as well as unusually shaped “Vari-Piece” puzzle pieces which are in very good condition (see gallery photo). The box front has some damage (visible on the photo) but it is still usable and in fair condition for a vintage puzzle dating from 1970.
