Dab Hand says: This famous picture by Sir John Everett Millais was painted in 1870. The original is in the Tate Gallery. Sir Walter Raleigh was one of the most celebrated explorers of the Elizabethan age. He is shown as a boy listening to the tales of a Genoese sailor, who is believed to be pointing to the Spanish Main. The toy ship in the foreground suggests Raleigh’s future adventures. This jigsaw dates from 1978 and the box is a little faded (see gallery photo) but the puzzle is in excellent condition with vibrant and generously sized pieces.
