Dab Hand says: Familiar names like Fry’s and Cadbury’s were amongst the first to establish large-scale commercial confectionery production in Victorian times. These pioneers produced chocolate treats and were followed by others who expanded the consumers’ options with gums and pastilles (Rowntree), toffee (Mackintosh) and Liquorice All-Sorts (Basset). This montage image from the Robert Opie Collection features many such treats in vintage wrappers, some of which are still available while others have long since disappeared from the shops. See the gallery photo for the full image.
